AHU TE UA

ahuAhu Te Ua was born in Marton Aotearoa/New Zealand on the 28th of September 1962. He was raised in Castlecliff, Wanganui. His father was of Maori and Scottish decent. His mother is Dutch and still resides in Wanganui.
ahuAfter revealing natural skills in the visual arts Ahu was excepted into Wellington Design School's VCD course in 1982. He graduated in 1985. After a spell in paste-up design Ahu traveled overseas. He freelanced in Australia and London before returning to New Zealand. He settled in Auckland where he continues to paint and work as a freelance illustrator.
ahuIn 1991 Ahu was asked to provide the painting for the cover of the Tenth Anniversary Edition of Keri Hulme's Booker Award winning novel The Bone People. In 1994 he won the Qantas Media Award for 'Graphic Editorial'.
ahu In 2000 the Legal Services Board of The New Zealand Law Society commissioned Ahu to paint Journeys: Nga Tapuae. It became the center piece of all the Board's promotional material. In the same year he was part of the group show Te Totara o te Urewera Hikoi Exhibition at the Arch Hill Gallery.

ahuAhu Te Ua has staged four very successful solo exhibitions. Establishing him has one of Auckland's more respected up and coming artists. His illustrations regularly appear in The New Zealand Listener, Metro, and various other local magazines. Making him one of New Zealand's most recognizable Illustrators.
